Billing

The billing account behind a wallet — the name on the invoice, the tax identity, and why the four GST registration statuses have to be right before you top up.

The wallet holds credits. The billing account is the entity those credits are bought by: the name on the invoice, the tax identity, and the address the tax treatment follows from.

They are separate on purpose. Spending is an operational act; billing is an accounting one, and the people who do them are usually different.

What a billing account holds

Contact and emailWhere invoices go

PAN and GSTINIndian tax identities
GST registration statusRegistered, not registered, SEZ, or overseas
Tax country, tax ID and its typeFor accounts outside India

GST registration status decides your treatment

The four values are not cosmetic:

  • Registered — a normal GST invoice, with your GSTIN on it and credit you can claim
  • Not registered — a business below the threshold or otherwise unregistered
  • SEZ — special economic zone treatment
  • Overseas — outside India entirely, taxed accordingly

Set this before you top up, not after

Tax treatment is applied when the invoice is raised. An invoice issued against the wrong status is a correction, and corrections in tax documents are more work than five minutes of setup.

Outside India

There are separate tax country, tax ID and tax ID type fields, so an account can carry whatever registration its jurisdiction uses rather than being forced into an Indian shape.
