Aadhaar
Verified by one-time password sent to the mobile number registered against the Aadhaar. You enter it, the check happens against the issuing source, and the result is immediate.
You are not uploading a photograph of a card for somebody to eyeball. The number is checked where it was issued.
PAN
Checked against the tax record. Name and PAN have to agree — the commonest failure here is a name that differs from the one on the PAN, usually an initial expanded or a married name updated in one place and not the other.
DigiLocker
Where available, DigiLocker covers Aadhaar and PAN together in a single consent rather than two separate verifications. It is the fastest path: you consent once, and the documents come from the issuing authorities directly.
Instant checks are the point
Verification against an issuing source in seconds is what allows the whole platform to say "verified" and mean something. A photograph of a document proves that somebody owns a photograph.
What to have ready
Your Aadhaar number and the mobile registered against it, and your PAN. Between them they cover identity, address and tax identity.
If your registered mobile has changed and you cannot receive the Aadhaar OTP, that has to be fixed with the issuing authority first — nothing here can work around it.
Common rejections
- A name mismatch between PAN, Aadhaar and your profile — usually an initial expanded, or a name changed in one record and not another
- An OTP not completed in time — the check timed out rather than failed, so retry
- An expired document where the licence or passport route was used
None are permanent. Correct the mismatch and resubmit.
